Tim's Ford State Park is located in Winchester, Tennessee. This park had a lot to offer and was pretty nice. There were lots of cabins, a few different campgrounds, picnic areas, a lot of hiking trails, a nature center, gift shop and a swimming area in one of the campgrounds.
We visited in July, and it was HOT. It got to 100 degrees at one point, but most days stayed around the high 90s, low 100s. The park used to have a pool, but as of 2022, it is closed. Down the road about 15 minutes was the Fairview campground, which is part of Tim's Ford State Park, but is in a different section, and it had a swimming beach. We spent a lot of our time there. The water felt amazing.
We saved most of our walking around for the evenings when it had cooled down just a little bit. The park has several trails that you can hike and bike. The Lost Overlook trail has an old wrecked 1950's Plymouth that has been left there that was really cool to see. We also walked around behind the picnic area to see the Travis Hollow Bridge. The park also has a playground very close to the cabins, so we spent a good bit of our evenings here.
We decided to go into Winchester one day and visit their public pool. The pictures looked really cool because it had some water slides, and my kids loved that. It was a lot of fun and a nice way to cool off, and wasn't too far of a drive from the park. Unfortunately, we ran into quite a few rude people, with one pushing and poking my son and then calling him fat. So we didn't have the best time there, and preferred the swimming beach, which was never very busy any of the times we went.
Only about 20 minutes from the park is the small town of Lynchburg, home of the Jack Daniels distillery. It was a cute, charming little town, and I talk more about it on it's own page.
The park had about 20 cabins. The cabins on the outside are not the nicest looking, but the inside was awesome. They are some of our favorite cabins. There is a large parking area and then you carry your stuff down to your cabin. It's not a super far walk, but it is down some stairs and can be a little rough for multiple trips. They are also all on a steep hill, so the grill and firepit are somewhat slanted. The cabins are 2 bedrooms, with one king bed, and 2 full sized, and a full bath. The king sized bedroom had its own private balcony while the other bedroom had access to a balcony. There is a TV, but the cable was out while we were there and no Wifi.
