Stone Mountain Park-Spring
Stone Mountain Park is such a beautiful park with a lot to do. If you are looking for a day of fun or a whole weekend, you should definitely check it out! Stone Mountain has so much history and it offers so many things to do, so there is something for everyone. In the spring, all their beautiful plants and flowers have bloomed out and everywhere you look is just pure beauty. You can stay inside the park at their two hotels, in their campground, or in their yurts. We have stayed in the Atlanta Evergreen resort inside the park and it is so nice. We love staying there. We always get views of the lake with a balcony, a pool outside and hot tub outside, heated indoor pool and hot tub. I will list out the things to do inside the park and whether or not you need a ticket to do them below. There are also restaurants and shops within the park. They are a bit expensive though. We were really disappointed with the BBQ Base Camp place because for the price of the plate, there was so little food. You can come and go, but that is a lot of walking and driving, so most people stay and eat in the park...which is why they can charge whatever they want.
Need a ticket:
- Tram to the top. You can ride the tram to the top and back down anytime during the day of your ticket. You can stay at the top as long as you want (or until the last tram). The views are amazing and I highly recommend. Those afraid of the tram can walk to the top.
- Train. You can ride the train around the mountain. It is about a 30 minute trip and they usually stop in the middle at Pebble Ridge and put on a little show.
- Historic Square. You can tour houses from the 1800s that are so awesome. One of the biggest houses, and our favorite, the Davis house, has burned and is closed. But there are other great house that you can go in.
- Putt-putt. Stone Mountain has a really cool course.
- 4D theater. Watch a movie in 3D with extra things like water and wind sprayed on you to go with the movie. It is only a cut down version of the movie, not the full-length movie.
- Dinotaurium. This place is so cool for the kids and even adults. It is 4 floors of play! Slides, climbing nets, foam balls, games, etc...you can spend so long here.
- Dinosaur Explore. This is a walk-through where you can see dinosaur animatronics and learn about them.
- Camp Outpost. A ropes course that you can do. There is a small one for the younger kids or people who don't like heights that is like a ropes obstacle course.
- Crystal Geysers. This is only open during the summer, but it is a fun splash pad playground type place.
- Laser show. You get to sit on the Memorial Lawn and watch a laser show on the the mountain. It is really awesome and definitely worth it to stay and see.
Don't need a ticket:
- Playground
- Hiking
- Biking
- Confederate Museum
- Grist Mill
- Rock Quarry
- Washington Bridge
Overall, there is so much to do. We usually spend one whole day doing the main attractions inside the park, and then the next day we go around the park and look at the museum, grist Mill, rock Quarry and all that.
