Not to be confused with South Cumberland or Cumberland Trail State Parks, Cumberland Mountain State Park is located in Crossville, Tennessee. This park is very rich in CCC history. When you picture a state park, this is exactly what I think of-rustic cabins, stone bridges, open fields to play in, rusted fences, wood signs, lakes and geese, trails, playgrounds, and wood signs. There is so much to do here and it is so peaceful here.
There are miles and miles of hiking trails and even some mountain biking trails. There are 2 playgrounds, a swimming pool, the lake to fish in, a restaurant, boat rentals, a campground, lots of cabins, a basketball court, volleyball court, open fields to play in, pavillions and so much more. The pool does cost $7 per person, which was a bit frustrating because that was over $60 for us during our stay. But I am just happy to see that the pool is still open. It seems like Georgia and Tennessee close their pools one after the other, citing that its too costly to maintain.
If you walk around the lake, you are going to encounter swarms of geese, and if you feed one, you'll look up and see an army of geese coming for food. There are also some little turtles that swim in the lake.
We sat on the dock and fished a little, we played on the playgrounds, did a lot of walking, and just enjoyed our time together in nature. Just sitting out on the picnic table, I would have so many birds come land on the table and fly around me.
The cabins here are great because they have a few different sizes and prices, so you can find one that fits your budget and needs. We just got the cheap duplex cabin, which means we share a porch, yard area, picnic table and grill with a neighbor. These cabins were a bit small, all one room besides a closet and bathroom, but it had everything we needed. The only complaint was that there were only 2 of everything in the kitchen-2 plates, 2 bowls, 2 forks, etc..It made it pretty difficult to cook and for me and the kids to all eat together.
Overall, I do not want to leave this park. I have so many amazing things to say about this park and I believe it will definitely be an annual one from now on that we visit.
