Located just on the outskirts of Helen and right on the entrance of Richard Russell from the Helen side, Smithgall Woods is a cute little park for some hiking or picnicking. The park is not very big and doesn't have a lot to do. There are cabins that you can rent, but they are very expensive. I believe you can camp but they are walk-in sites so you would have to hike to them. We usually stop in at this park when we just want to have a little picnic and then walk around the river area. It is very beautiful and the Visitor Center has a nice little gift shop and a room with taxidermy animals, but there's not much to do as far as swimming, putt putt, boating, etc..
