We have started staying at a park during 4th of July because it's always so fun how everyone is grilling out and decorating and just getting amped up for it, and we love it. We booked a yurt here for the week. Overall, the park was very fun with a lot to do. There were multiple playgrounds, many hiking trails, swimming, the old cabin and casting shed to explore, camping, yurts, cabins, and so much more. The park itself was decently big. We spent most of our time at the lake. We would go up to the Visitor Center quite a bit and walk around the trails and then play on the playground there.
Our biggest complaint and only real issue was just how busy it was. Every single day it was packed. I know it was 4th of July, but we've stayed at parks before on the 4th and never had one at this level of busy. You had to walk a bit to get to the lake, and people were parked and walking from a mile away. There were cars just lining the street. A lot of people were going to the Visitor Center area and getting in the lake back there. We were lucky that we were able to access the lake from below our yurt, so we had a little private place to swim.
Although the parks usually don't allow fireworks, Red Top Mountain had some type of country club place inside the park. They were able to do fireworks. We had planned to go into town to find a place to watch them, but a very nice park ranger let us know about the fireworks happening there. So we were able to watch from inside the park and we ended up with the best location.
YURTS: The yurts were just like all the other yurts at GA state parks. They had a bunkbed, couch, table and chairs, AC, a wraparound porch, a fire pit, grill and picnic table. The table in the yurt was so freaking big though that it took up half the yurt. We could barely move in there because it was so big. They really need to get some smaller tables in there. The bathrooms are also a bit of a walk. It wasn't a big deal for when you wanted to go shower, but when you needed to quickly use the bathroom, or late at night, it wasn't fun.
Besides the yurts, there is a campground that is very popular and cabins. I'm pretty sure the camp sites book up pretty quickly though.
