Sweetwater Creek State Park

We came to stay at Sweetwater Creek for a weekend in a yurt, and I am so glad that we only booked the two nights...and I'll explain why. The park itself was nice. The Visitor Center was pretty big and it had a small museum with history and facts about the ruins. The ruins were really cool to walk to, and we loved playing in the creek. The yurt was just like all the other GA state park yurts with a bunk bed, a couch/futon, table and chairs, shelf, porch, a grill, fire pit and picnic table. The bathrooms were right across from us and there was a really cool playground by the yurts. We also liked that you could park right by your yurt. We grilled out one night, but one night we did go into town and get some food and had a  little picnic.

It was SOOOO hot and the yurts did not have AC. Yurts can get really hot if you don't have AC, and I'm very hot-natured, so that's why we don't camp as much as I would love to. I can't sleep good at all if I'm burning up. I sleep so good when it's nice and chilly. But we had to leave all the windows open in the yurt, and I still just woke up over and over again. The only way to really cool off was to get in the creek, and we did and it felt amazing. The problem is that you have to walk a good ways to get access to the creek. So by the time you get good and cooled off and then walk back, you're burning up again. I usually hate to leave a place, but we were kind of ready to go.

This park is a nice little park to visit, but if you have kids that want more fun things to do like swimming, fishing, putt putt, etc., this may not be the one for you.

Overall:
