Clayton, Ga & Mountain Aire Cottages, Inn & Glamping

We spent the weekend in Clayton, GA at one of the cutest little properties. Mountain Aire Cottages, Inn and Glamping had something for everyone. It started in the 1940s as a motor lodge that was off the main highway, but when the larger highway came in, it lost a lot of business. The owner, Frank, has turned it into a beautiful property. There is a small motel-like area with 4 rooms that are each decorated differently and resemble a cabin more than a motel. They all had a small kitchenette in them. There are also 4 cottages, a teepee and a yurt you can rent. Right below the motel area is a beautiful little porch area with tables and a grill and a fire pit and swing area. We spent most of our time sitting outside on the porch or around the fire. The kids spent most of their time swinging.

Frank was very wonderful and really cared for his guests and made sure they all felt special and had anything they needed. He was pretty much there the whole time in the office in case you needed anything. He even took all of us to tour the teepee, the yurt and one of the cottages.

While in Clayton, we toured the main street area and went into all the little shops. There were so many great shops you could walk to and we got some chocolate, some books and a few other knick knacks. We loved going into Wonder North Georgia. Up the road are 3 state parks-Moccasin Creek, which is a smaller park more for camping, Black Rock Mountain, which has the highest elevation of any GA state park and you can see for miles, and Tallulah Gorge where you can hike along the gorge and see all throughout the gorge.

We had already been to all of these parks except my mom who had never been to Black Rock Mountain, so we went there. We stopped at all of the overlooks and viewed the miles and miles of mountains. The kids played on the playground and then we headed down to the lake and walked around the lake for a bit.

We spent a good bit of our time just relaxing at the motel, but we also wanted to just get out some and do some shopping and walking around. Across the road was the flea market, so we walked around it. There were a lot of neat things, with some things being way overpriced and some things being priced well.

Clayton doesn't have a ton to do, but for a relaxing weekend where you just want to get away and have a nice short trip, it was perfect. It is only an hour for us to get there and it is such a pretty little town. We will definitely be back to this property.
